This "Empire" toile de Jouy features patterns particularly appreciated during Napoleon's time, a period when designers were largely inspired by a fantasized Greco-Roman world. The excavations of the sites of Herculaneum and Pompeii with the early archaeologists, along with the military campaigns of the young emperor, have an undeniable influence.
The patterns consist of symbols of triumph, helmets and laurel crowns, and allegorical figures of victory. On streamlined forms, ornaments such as palmettes, draped figures, fauns, centaurs, and sphinxes unfold.
A perfect mix of ancient and contemporary.
Finish: back in duck velvet and contemporary fluorescent yellow piping.
